AINS provides comprehensive IT support to USDA:
- Technical analysis of existing LANs and standalone workstations, using
various data-collection software, AINS-developed utilities and user
interviews
- Capture and analysis of network traffic baselines on existing Novell
LANs
- Design of ring and server logical and physical configurations for Novell
LANs
- Simulation of the network designs using projected traffic loads to
validate and optimize configurations for supporting new users,
applications, and projected growth
- Assessments of LAN standards for network/workstation hardware and
software con-figurations, logical configurations, and network security
- Detailed implementation planning for several move increments as users
are moved to various buildings as the main USDA building is renovated
- Installation, upgrade, and burn-in of new file servers, including
installation of NetWare 411, network-based applications, NetTune and
LANalyzer monitoring software and recovery of backed-up hard drives from
old servers
- Dual backups of existing servers prior to migration, including testing
of recovery procedures for backed-up files
- Test cabling and connectivity of all workstation drops to network
servers
- Establishment of new network performance baselines with network
monitoring tools (Sniffer, TrendTrak and LANalyzer) and documentation of
all server and network configurations
- IV&V work for additional systems
