AINS provides comprehensive IT support to USDA:
  • Technical analysis of existing LANs and standalone workstations, using various data-collection software, AINS-developed utilities and user interviews
  • Capture and analysis of network traffic baselines on existing Novell LANs
  • Design of ring and server logical and physical configurations for Novell LANs
  • Simulation of the network designs using projected traffic loads to validate and optimize configurations for supporting new users, applications, and projected growth
  • Assessments of LAN standards for network/workstation hardware and software con-figurations, logical configurations, and network security
  • Detailed implementation planning for several move increments as users are moved to various buildings as the main USDA building is renovated
  • Installation, upgrade, and burn-in of new file servers, including installation of NetWare 411, network-based applications, NetTune and LANalyzer monitoring software and recovery of backed-up hard drives from old servers
  • Dual backups of existing servers prior to migration, including testing of recovery procedures for backed-up files
  • Test cabling and connectivity of all workstation drops to network servers
  • Establishment of new network performance baselines with network monitoring tools (Sniffer, TrendTrak and LANalyzer) and documentation of all server and network configurations
  • IV&V work for additional systems
